Safe Towing:

All drivers need to be aware of their obligations to ensure that they comply with all towing requirements and regulations, including:

The Total Weight (GVM) of the trailer or van being towed does not exceed

• The towing vehicles maximum towing capacity (refer to the vehicles handbook)
• Vehicle towbar maximum load rating (should be listed on towbar)
• Vehicle towbar maximum tow ball download rating (should be on towbar)

It is also recommended that rated shackles be used to attach the safety chain/chains of any item being towed, and that all loads be appropriately restrained, ideally with rated ratchet style straps rather than ropes.
